The Guelph Royals made six errors, allowed two runs on wild pitches and allowed four runs in the ninth inning on just two hits - but still beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 12-11 in 10 innings in Intercounty Baseball League play Wednesday night.
Guelph leads the best-of-seven opening round series 2-1. Game 4 is in Guelph Saturday at 2 p.m. with game 5 at Dominico Field Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Royals pounded out 22 hits and won despite constantly letting the Leafs back into the game with errors and wild pitches. Chris Stewart's RBI single in the 10th inning finally delivered the winning run, but the Royals still made two more errors in the bottom of the 10th and left two runners on before Greg Byron finally got the last three outs for the save.
Chris Rommano got the win despite allowing the four ninth inning runs that allowed the Leafs to tie the game. Brian Corcoran pitched two innings of relief for Toronto, allowing two runs on three hits and took the loss.
Jeremy Ware had four hits and John Waltenbury, Mark Allen, Nathan Grant and Peter Bako all had three hits for Guelph. Sean Reilly, Kevin Hinton and Allen all homered for the winners.
Kyle Degrace had four hits for the Leafs, who were out-hit 22-13 in the 3 hour, 54 minute marathon that was delayed by rain for 40 minutes before it began.
Kern Watts added three hits for the Leafs, while Raul Borjas and Degrace both drove in a pair of runs.
Both other games scheduled for Wednesday night were postponed due to rain, with both series continuing on Thursday night.
