Leafs rained out Saturday

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the London Majors certainly are hoping for clear skies in the next few days.

Saturday night’s scheduled Game 5 of their Intercounty Baseball League playoff series was postponed due to rain at Christie Pits, resulting in a scheduling re-juggling that may have to be altered yet again if there’s any more rain in the next few days.

The teams hope to play Game 5 today at 2 p.m. at the Pits, as the Leafs have home field advantage and will get the next game in Toronto . Game 6 is now slated for London on Monday night, with a seventh game if necessary in Toronto on Tuesday.

However any more cancellations will alter that schedule yet again, as a postponement today means Game 5 goes on Monday at Pits, with the schedule backed up yet another day.

“Not much you can do about the weather,” Toronto owner Jack Dominico says. “We moved Saturday’s game to the evening to give the teams time to rest and then it rains, nothing you can do about that.

“It’s down to a best-of-three series now too, so we’ve got to play Game 5 in Toronto no matter what.”

Once the series does resume it’s anybody’s guess who will win it, after the Majors evened the opening round best-of-seven series at 2-2 with a 7-5 win in London on Friday night.

London started the series with an 11-1 romp in Toronto, but followed that with a 6-2 loss at home in Game 2 and a 12-1 humbling at the Pits in Game 3, so home field advantage may not matter that much.

The other three first round series are over, with the pennant winning Barrie Baycats awaiting the winners of this series. The Brantford Red Sox and the Guelph Royals will play in the other semi-final series.
