Thanks to a dramatic two run, ninth inning rally, the Toronto Maple Leafs live to fight another day.

Nildo Puertas slapped an infield single to drive in Raul Borjas with the winning run, giving the Leafs a thrilling 8-7 win over the Barrie Baycats in Game 4 of the Intercounty Baseball League semi-finals Wednesday night at Christie Pits.

Barrie still leads the best-of-seven series 3-1 and can wrap it up with a win tonight in Barrie , but the Leafs do get to live for at least one more day thanks to their ninth inning dramatics.

“It’s a cliché but it’s just one game at a time and we found a way to gut out a win tonight,” Leaf owner Jack Dominico said. “It wasn’t the prettiest hit in the world, but we’ll sure take it at this stage.”

Indeed they will. Puertas came out with the bases loaded and two out against Barrie reliever Jake Hines in the midst of an 0-for-4 night which featured him grounding into two double plays. He slapped a grounder to the right side of the infield that neither Barrie ’s first or second baseman could get a glove on, bringing in the winning run.

Hines entered the game in the top of the ninth and walked two and hit a batter, with his control problems ultimately costing him.

The teams went back and forth all night, with the Baycats jumping ahead in the top of the ninth when Steve Lewis’s RBI single broke a 6-6 tie.

Jeremy Walker had three hits, including a clutch three-run hoemr for the Leafs, while Kyle Degrace also homered. Brian Ivan had three hits and Borjas and Damon Topolie also added two hits for the Leafs.

Jason Pocklington got the win in relief for the Leafs, allowing one run on one hit over two innings.

Lewis had three hits for the Baycats, while Donovan Latour and Josh Matlow both had a pair of hits.
