Royals rout Leafs to take 3-2 series lead

If the Toronto Maple Leafs expect to play beyond the first round of the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs, then they are going to have to get much better pitching than they have so far in round one.

The Guelph Royals pounded out 16 hits and embarrassed the Leafs 14-2 in game 5 of their opening round best-of-seven series Sunday afternoon at Dominico Field at Christie Pits, putting the Leafs on the verge of playoff elimination.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Guelph Royals look poised to stage an epic battle in their Intercounty Baseball league playoff series.
Their best-of-seven opening round series is down to a best-of-three after the Leafs scored five runs in the eighth inning to rally past the Royals 8-7 Saturday afternoon in Guelph, tying the series at 2-2. Game 5 is at Dominico Field at Christie Pits Sunday at 2 p.m., with Game 6 is Guelph Monday afternoon.

The Guelph Royals made six errors, allowed two runs on wild pitches and allowed four runs in the ninth inning on just two hits - but still beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 12-11 in 10 innings in Intercounty Baseball League play Wednesday night.
Guelph leads the best-of-seven opening round series 2-1. Game 4 is in Guelph Saturday at 2 p.m. with game 5 at Dominico Field Sunday at 2 p.m.
