The Toronto Maple Leafs opened up their 40th anniversary season in fine fashion Sunday afternoon.

With former major league greats Ferguson Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Luis Tiant, Robin Roberts, Monte Irvin and Bob Feller on hand, the Leafs stopped the Barrie Baycats 3-2 in the 2008 Intercounty Baseball League opener Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

The Toronto Maple Leafs open defence of their 2007 IBL championship with a matinee at Christie Pits against the Barrie Baycats on Sunday May 4 at 2:00pm.

Arrive by noon and meet Hall of Famers Ferguson Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Bob Feller, Robin Roberts, Monte Irvin, Ralph Kiner and Luis Tiant on the field.

Opening ceremonies begin at 1:30pm.

The Leaf's 34 game schedule concludes on Sunday July 20.

Toronto will host the IBL All-Star Classic at Christie Pits on Saturday July 5. As defending league champs, the Leafs will face a team of IBL All-Stars in the special event.

2008 will be a very special year for the Toronto Maple Leafs, as it marks their 40th anniversary.

The Leafs Annual Forum and Reception will also be very special this year, as the Leafs are pleased to announce that for the first time, they will have a record seven former major league greats on hand to help them open the season.

This year’s Forum will feature Ferguson Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Bob Feller, Robin Roberts, Monte Irwin, Ralph Kiner and Luis Tiant, giving fans the largest number of former players in Forum history.
